Estee Lauder is a famous and well-recognized name and brand, even for those who are not fashion enthusiasts. This goes to show the huge success that the company has managed to achieve in the world of fashion. She was a pioneer in the cosmetics industry and during her long career had many achievements to her name. She was listed in Time magazine in 1998 on the list of the 20 most influential business geniuses and also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nations highest civilian award.

Not much is known about Estee Lauder’s (born Josephine Ester Mentzer) formative years. Along with her husband Joseph, they founded the company with their own products: Crème Pack, Cleansing Oil, and All Purpose Crème and Skin Lotion. An innovative approach, as well as good management of the company, led them to establish their first department store retail account at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, in 1948.

Just a few years later, the couple was able to come up with another novel product. Youth-Dew was bath oil that possessed a lingering fragrance that lent it the versatility to be used as a perfume, as well.

Estee Lauder is now the largest privately owned cosmetics company in the world, grossing well over one billion dollars in sales. It has now become a collection of different companies in the fashion and cosmetics industry, encompassing such names as Clinique, Aramis, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Aveda, and many more.

Truly, the cosmetics and perfume industries would not nearly be the same without the men and women behind the name. This industry giant has made its name through years of providing high quality and proving its worth, and continues to satisfy millions of customers worldwide.
