Arbonne Skin Care System
arbonne not so basic skin care 5 step system?

i’ve been using this for awhile and it seems to have made my acne worse. is it supposed to get worse for the first week or two? why is this happening?

Your skin is clearly allergic to these products. I’ll explain: when skin reacts poorly to a product (ie breaks out, itches, becomes dry, or is otherwise irritated), it is telling you that the product has ingredients it simply can’t handle. The reason some people swear that “acne gets worse before it gets better,” is that if you force your skin to deal with a product for long enough, it may get used to it enough to stop having the bad reaction.

HOWEVER, you will receive NO benefits from the product in question. The product will continue to damage your skin at its basic level, even after it stops getting visibly enflamed. Your acne will most likely only decrease to the point it was at before you started using the product. Arbonne representatives get paid solely on commission, so they will almost certainly tell you that your skin “just needs to get used to the products,” since they rely on you for their income. But there is NO reason to subject your skin to something that makes it uncomfortable!

To give you an idea, if you look at the book _Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me_, it explains why many Arbonne products are damaging and which ones are okay to buy (you can check it out at the library [like I did], or just quickly check the “Arbonne” section in it at the bookstore).

Now, the trouble is that it may be very difficult to figure out which of the five products are the ones causing the bad reaction. Honestly, the best way to go about this is to start by getting an extremely gentle cleanser (like Cetaphil, or Eucerin, or Neutrogena for Sensitive Skin) and use it for a week or two before reusing ANY of the Arbonne products. Then you can slowly test them on your skin one at a time, using one for about 5 days, waiting a day, and then trying another.

Personally, I’m pretty impatient, so I would just start with a combination of Cetaphil, a BHA product (like Clearasil Acne Fighting Facial Moisturizers; Paula’s Choice 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Liquid; or Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion), and I would also DEFINITELY add a benzoyl peroxide product like Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment Vanishing Formula 2.5%. (Since your skin is sensitive, you really want to start with a 2.5% concentration before moving on to anything stronger, like Persa Gel 10!)

I sincerely hope this helps. Like I said, some Arbonne products are great, but many of the sellers aren’t educated enough about skin care to realize which are good and which are harmful for skin.
