Dry skin can be an ongoing issue for most of us during the winter months. Exfoliating your entire body can be done with a dry brush. This will improve your skins health and your overall physical well being.

What is a Dry Brush?

Dry Brushing is simply using a natural bristle brush on your body before you enter the shower.  You can use a long handled, natural fiber back brush. You can also use either exfoliating gloves, a loofah sponge, or a clean nubby wash cloth.

The reason you might want to dry brush is that when you hit your thirties, your skin cells renew at a slower rate. This gives your complexion an ashen or dull look. Exfoliating removes dead cells on the skins surface and stimulates cell production lower down in the epidermis.  This improves skin texture and cell renewal.  It also increases circulation to the skin.

How often you exfoliate with a dry brush depends on the climate you live in, your skin type and your age. If you live in a warm weather climate or have naturally oily skin you’ll need to exfoliate more often. Dry or aged skin is of course more delicate and should be exfoliated less often.

  6. Reduces Stress- Helps those of us who suffer from stiff, soar necks and shoulders.  It increases blood flow and reduces stressed areas of the body. It also stimulates the nerve endings of your skin which in turn rejuvenates your nervous system.

How to Dry Brush Your Skin

  • Start with a dry body and a dry brush.  It may be easier to stand in the shower because you will shed a lot of dead skin.
  • Gently scrub over your entire body before you shower.  Use the brush all over your body with long strokes. Always start from an outward direction and move upward. For example, start with your hands and feet and move the brush towards your heart. This helps you drain your lymph nodes and push the blood back toward the heart.
  • For your stomach use the brush and work clockwise around in a circle three times. This helps to follow your digestive and elimination system.
  •  Once out of the shower and before your skin is completely dry, apply a rich moisturizing body cream made from pure botanicals.

Try to dry brush at least once or twice a week. It helps to release toxins, invigorate the body and improves your skin complexion!
