Gel Patches Mask

Have you read some of the warnings now coming out of research into olive oil facial cleansers? It now seems that they are not as good for many of us as their glossy advertising implies.
In fact you might want to skip them.
An orange and olive oil facial cleanser may smell delicious and seem to give good results, but hard evidence about its effectiveness is now being uncovered and we are learning that without the orange you won’t get much of a cleansing effect. It’s the orange alone that does the work!
Olive oil facial cleansers may be effective moisturizers, but there are no elements in the oils that are actually cleansing. On the other hand, orange peel and the oils extracted from it are very effective cleansers.
Having said this, I need to say something else. It’s this. The orange oils are relatively mild, however in high concentrations they may cause irritation.
So if you have very sensitive or dry skin, an olive oil facial cleanser may be the right choice. It may be better for you than an orange based cleanser. If used properly, it is not actually the oils that cleanse, but the movement of the wash cloth. Researchers have shown that we remove dirt and germs through the friction of rubbing. A cleanser, basically “loosens” the dirt and grime.
An olive oil facial cleanser will do nothing to loosen grime as it has no cleansing activity.
Actually, if you have oily skin to begin with, olive oil facial cleansers should be avoided, since they do nothing to balance sebum production and will increase oiliness.
Sebum is the natural moisture or “oil” produced by specialized glands deep within the skin. In order to prevent excessive oiliness, or the “combination” problem where some patches of skin are oily and others are dry, you need something that balances sebum production.
Jojoba, for example, balances sebum production. It is also an effective moisturizer, but not a cleanser. You need something else for that.
If your skin is too sensitive for an orange and olive oil facial cleanser, you may want to look for clay or clay extracts. Kaolin and bentone, or bentonite, are components of clay. Clay has been used for centuries as a deep cleansing mask.
Bentone absorbs sebum, so your skin is less oily. Kaolin has antibacterial properties and works to “pull out” grime. Cleansers that contain both of these compounds are highly effective.
If you really want to try olive oil facial cleansers, just to see how well they work, you can use the type that you keep in your kitchen pantry. Pour about a tablespoon full into the palm of your hand. Apply to the face, starting at the chin and working upward. Wet a clean washcloth with hot water, wring it out and lay the cloth over your face.
This can be very relaxing, with or without the olive oil facial cleanser. Once the washcloth starts to cool off, use it to remove the oil, re-wetting if necessary. Then rinse.
If your face feels oily afterwards, then you know that this is not the right choice for cleansing.
Cleansing is an important step in skincare. Gentle rubbing improves circulation and loosens dirt that gets trapped in the pores.
Moisturizing is also important. And for this, natural plant oils, like that derived from olives, are closer to the chemical makeup of sebum than mineral oils, like petrolatum.
Dry skin shows the signs of aging more quickly than oily. But, what you really want is a balance. If olive oil facial cleansers help you achieve that balance, then you’re off to a good start.
