why does “amazing face” tanning lotion make my blemishes look worse?
probably because your darkening your skin and since blemishes are already darker than your normal skin tone they stick out more….your giving your blemishes a tan too ya know 
you could try a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, it will dry up the zit and lighten the skin; or if you have dry skin there ane many bleaching creams for the skin to lighten dark spots.
